The Web Designer works in consultation with the Director and Associate Directors to support the communication and event registration needs of the Centre for Teaching and Learning. Firstly, the incumbent designs, updates, and maintains the organization and layout of the CTL website using the Cascade website management tool. The web designer creates and edits images and print materials into various formats for use on websites, mailing lists, and social media. This includes creating communications materials such as website banners and email announcements. Secondly, the incumbent manages event registration for CTL programs using Western’s Connect registration database.


  • Undergraduate Degree, preferably in Information Management or Computer Science


  • 2 years’ related experience designing, implementing, programming and testing web applications
  • prior experience with Cascade web content management system and website design and maintenance would be an asset
  • Prior experience with Western Connect registration database would be an asset
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Familiarity with web technologies and tools including content management systems, and learning management systems
  • Familiarity of industry standards and best practices of website programming techniques
  • Working knowledge of current Internet technologies, including HTML and CSS including responsive web
  • In-depth knowledge of programming languages, coding methods and best practices
  • Familiarity of e-communication tools including website and graphic design principles
  • strong database management and database reporting experience
  • demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and set appropriate priorities in a fast-paced setting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills with the ability to assess and scope areas for improvement and an ability to offer creative solutions
  • Problem solving skills with a sense of urgency in resolving issues and getting tasks completed
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish effective communication with all members of the team to maximize productivity

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze and synthesize sizable amounts of detail/data
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and strategically to achieve results
  • Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Office suite
